South Korean fisoldiers fired at passenger aircraft

Two South Korean soldiers shot their guns in the direction of civil aviation aircraft as mistaken as the North Korean military aircraft.

South Korean military officials said there was no damage to aircraft carrying more than one hundred passengers were due to this incident.

Earlier two soldiers who were on guard post Gyodong Island, South Korea's west, firing a weapon type K-2 at Asiana Airlines plane was heading when Incheon International Airport after a flight from China.

The shooting occurred amid tense atmosphere between the military and North Korea, Gyodong itself is only about 1.7km from the coast of North Korea.

"As the plane came over Jumun Island, one of our soldiers to identify and think as the North's military aircraft and then started shooting," said an Army officer was quoted as saying South Korean Navy's Yonhap news agency.

"The shooting of the plane that went on for ten minutes, but the ship was far out of range of our guns so that the aircraft did not experience any damage."

AFP news agency said South Korea's navy spokesman confirmed the incident but declined to comment further detail about the incident.

Superintendent explained that the flight itself Asiana Airlines plane was undergoing the usual normal flight route they are following.
