Former Lake deputy coroner will get prison in child molesting situation

An old Lake County deputy coroner was sentenced to seven years in prison Wednesday after he accepted molesting a 14-year-old girl.

Robert Barrett, 42, of Lindenhurst, pleaded guilty to criminal sexual assault throughout a hearing before Circuit Judge Daniel Shanes.

Assistant State’s Attorney Fred Day stated Barrett, who became a member of the coroner’s office in 2001 and resigned soon after his arrest, molested the lady between March 2009 and The month of january of the year.

Police were known as about the evening of Jan. 16 whenever a witness found Barrett within an inappropriate situation using the girl in the Lindenhurst home.

Barrett was initially billed with criminal sexual assault and irritated criminal sexual abuse, but Day stated the sexual abuse charge was dropped in return for the guilty plea.

Barrett faced an important prison sentence which is between four and fifteen years if he'd been charged of criminal sexual assault following a trial.
