Suicide bomb near the presidential palace

The suicide attack occurred in a police station near the presidential palace in the Afghan capital, Kabul.

Four security personnel and five civilians were killed.
BBC correspondent in Kabul says the attack was apparently part of a Taliban operation to attack the heart of the Afghan government.

In other parts of the city, two police officers were injured when they tried to defuse roadside bombs. Police said that in Kabul the security forces are doing confiscation of weapons and explosives.

In the city of Ghazni, eastern Afghanistan, the resistance fighters attacked two convoys of NATO troops, killing four guards.

Three men wearing Afghan army uniforms stormed the police station and fired at the police, said Mohammed Hanayon, an eyewitness, as dukutip AFP news agency.
